LINK BUILDING

What is a Link?

We can simply put that link is a connection between the two things or circumstances, especially where one thing has an effect on another but in a tech manner, it is an HTML element or hyperlink that enables you to leap to a new location when you click or activate it. Thus every website contains links and offers a basic means of navigating between pages on the web and links can be attached to text, photos, or other HTML elements and building links is a very popular method that is being used in SEO.

What is Link Building and why is it important?

Link building is the process of getting other websites to connect back to your website and it aims at raising the number and quality of inbound links to a website with the purpose of improving the search engine rankings on that particular web page.

Building links is a very essential technique used in search engine optimization ( SEO) because it is a major factor as to how Google ranks websites and it is a signal to Google that your website is a quality tool worthy of reference. The more links, the more search traffics will result in more customers.

DOMAIN AUTHORITY

What is a Domain Authority?

It is a search engine ranking score that is measured by assessing multiple factors into a single DA score, which include linking core domains and the maximum number links. Then this score can be used to compare websites or track a website’s “ranking power” throughout time.

Does Domain Authority Matter?

They did not come up with the DA system or give its ratings updates, MOZ do. MOZ is an independent technical SEO site that is widely known and used for information within the industry.

SO THE ONLY THING WE NEED TO KNOW IS THIS:

Question: Does Google (and other search engines) calculate and factor in DA when coming up with your rankings?

Answer – No
So domain authority isn’t important. Think about it. Google and all other search engines already have their own vastly more complicated way of calculating rankings. They have also already had these algorithms and been using them years before MOZ came up with their own largely arbitrary system. In short it is one of the biggest red herrings in SEO. In fact, when asked in the past Google has absolutely denied using it in any way.
Also, do a search for something competitive and if you have the MOZ toolbar installed in your browser, you will see that sites with lower DA outrank ones with higher DA. This makes no logical sense right? Well it makes 100% sense as Google does not use it as a ranking factor. Period.

Lastly, DA does not calculate whether a site has been penalized either with a penalty notice in your Google Webmaster Tools (GWMT) account, or by your rankings suddenly dropping drastically with an algorithmic penalty. So your site may be removed from Google’s index for some time yet still carry a high DA ranking. This is just one of many many reasons to confirm that DA is a misnomer and is likely to lead to more harm than good if you are setting it as a goal. So, basically, worrying about your sites DA is a mistake. Worry about your rankings and ways to improve your onsite and offsite.

Ways to Improve your Domain Authority

  1. Check your link profile so that your website has a good link profile.
  2. Creating plausible content.
  3. Make sure you have a user-friendly website.
  4. Step up your social communications

Obtain high-quality connections where you can find material that fits keywords effectively.
But it is always important to think about the greater picture, which is to create a website that will achieve strong rankings in search engine results throughout time and know how to determine if you have good or bad links.

Good Links Vs. Bad Links
What are Good Link and Bad Link?

We can put these two in a simple manner. First, “Good Links” are better links that will boost your search rankings and push you to your site with targeted organic traffic, while “Bad Links” are poor links that will cause you trouble. So it’s very advisable to maintain a thorough backlink analysis first before you start building links or obtaining them.

Types of Links

There are clearly many different types of links. There are:

  1. Contextual Link
  2. Citation or directory links
  3. Do follow and no follow
  4. Blog links
  5. Home page links

And a lot more which all of these vary with terminology too.

Which types of links are the most valuable?

Contextual Links

This type of link is certainly the most powerful when it comes to rankings, so let’s take a quick look at what this means. A contextual link is a link on a page that is surrounded by relevant grammatically correct words (300 at least) that don’t overuse keywords. Then the link itself will preferably have anchor text (the words that usually highlight when your pointer is over them) that take you to a page or URL. These anchor words need to make grammatical sense within the sentence they are in.

There are many other factors that determine how good this contextual link will be, like the quality of the site it’s on, the age, the amount of other outbound links on the page and so it goes on.

To be clear though, we are not saying just have contextual links as they are the best. Like in the good link bad link info, it’s a mixture of all link types that works best.
Having all your links of one type would again look suspicious and black hat to Google. So it’s variety that’s the aim here. Not just having many of what are perceived to be valuable links.

So to sum up, a contextual link from a reputable old industry-related site with no other links coming from that page (preferably a home page) with good surrounding text and good keyword anchor text is a good thing. Just that all your links being like this would be unnatural looking. It’s only reasonable to assume that you would have all other types of link too.

So is one link any better than another? Well for a link to count it needs to be “do follow”, which is saying to search engines please count this, as opposed to “no follow” which says please don’t count this. They are both still seen by search engines and again it’s hotly debated as to whether or not no follow links can help.

How quickly will a link work?

Well, there are literally millions of links coming and going every day and Google and search engines have to scan them, weigh them up against each other and then factor them into their index. In short, it can take time. Firstly you have to wait for the page to actually be indexed (which is why a home page link is good as opposed to a newly built inner page) and then Google might wait to see what another link activity is going on on the outbound site (nothing to do with your site), then weigh it all up and update its indexing on all of its servers around the world. It’s suddenly easy to realize why this can take 2 to 6 weeks. In short, it’s hard to calculate but a continuous slow stream of ongoing SEO work is what works best

How long do they last?

This is an easy one. If an SEO company is building all your links then they may have a guarantee to tell you. Otherwise, it’s down to how long the site or page lasts. This could be forever, or until the page or link can get removed which could be at any time. This is another reason why it takes time for them to work. Over time, you will naturally lose links, but you should slowly be naturally increasing your overall link total.

Attracting Links
What is Attracting Links and How does it works?

It is when you create and promote awesome content then you can generate natural links. In return, if you create information that is very convincing, the connections will follow as the content shares. That’s the charm of connecting.

How Do I Get Links To My Site?

What Google wants is for all links to be natural and organic. By that, it means that links will be made and placed by the public, in a natural and real way, e.g if you were leaving a blog post and wanted other readers of that blog to see what you were referencing. Or if you were a site owner and wanted to reference something from there too. It’s most likely that your site already has some links but you may not know how they got there.

The other thing is that contrary to Googles optimistic utopian goal, like all areas of business, some are way more prone to have a lot more natural links placed than others, e.g. areas of business that women talk about online like babies and fashion are far more likely to have many links than that of plumbing say. Equally areas that men talk about like sport and cars will have the same advantage. Basically as humans there are many areas that we all like to discuss and are passionate about like food, health and purchasable goods. These areas have an infinite number of sites that can benefit from related links, but sadly niche businesses do not have this natural advantage, and so much work to curate new links for their site.

Surely Google knows this and adjusts accordingly? Well you would think so, it may seem obvious that generally a fashion item is going to have more online link activity than plumbing, but there are always exceptions so Google uses a fairly level playing field. In order to get around this, one of the services we provide is to create expansive link resources, which we can use to draw from when creating links for niche businesses.

How many links would I have?

This is a big red herring in the SEO industry and is frightening to think how many SEO companies use this tactic.

Firstly, it’s not the amount of links you have, it’s the quality and this means that just one backlink going to your site could have more effect than 20+ links.

Link Resources
What is a Link Resources?

It is the procedure to get your site listed as one of the tools on the lists which can be useful links and resources for a particular subject thus you need a full compendium of link resources including relationships with webmasters worldwide that can be beneficial to your link building process and have access to be able to build pages and articles on relevant websites in your industries for an easy supply of new links.

How Do Marketing and SEO Agencies Work together?

So what does this mean? Well it means that marketing companies and SEO agencies have worked out long ago that you can manufacture realistic if not perfectly natural links to compensate. Google will only really punish you if you really go wild and suddenly have thousands appearing each month.

Also, you may think the advantage of attracting natural links is quantity and not quality, and you’d be right to an extent. A site at position 1 for a competitive key term may have less links than the site in position 2, so whilst you need a number of links to rank, what gets you to the top is the quality of your links and also how old they are. Having a multitude of links means that Google knows you are relevant as you are being talked about, but a site with less but much better types of links that are older is likely to perform better. SEO agencies will use partners or owned and managed sites on which to place links. There are many different types of links discussed here, but the hardest ones to get and the most powerful and natural looking are contextual backlinks. Your agency needs to only place a few of these each month on different sites to get your site moving, but not all SEO companies have the same resources or techniques so results will vary wildly.

But if your SEO agency is not building new links, overtly blogging or using just public blogs and citations, you will almost certainly never rank for anything competitive for reasons first stated

New Links

How To Determine Whether A Backlink From A Website is Worthy

Imagine you are looking to purchase a product and you are trusting the site you are purchasing on and everything on the pages signal distrust. The website is very small with hardly any products and the content doesn’t read well and none of the information describes what you are buying. Would you give this website your credit card details?

The same things you look at for trust is similar to how Google looks at websites. Google values age, size, popularity, and relevancy which are the same things you would look at when trusting a business with your purchase.

Link building services don’t just include acquiring new links, they’re also about constantly checking if you have acquired any unwanted sites linking back to yours. Sometimes without realizing it you may be attracting harmful links from another company who may be talking about your services or products and the site that is placing a link on may be regarded as spammy or scoring low points of not any with Google.

Lost/Gained Backlinks

What are Backlinks?

Backlinks (also known as “inbound links”, “incoming links” or “one-way links”) are the links that are intended to take you to another location or site and this also plays a vital role for the SEO of your blogs. Why? Simply because it says that the pages with a significant number of backlinks appear to get high rankings status throughout popular search websites.

Backlinks: Essential for SEO

Backlinks are a very essential aspect of SEO as they help create the domain and page authorities of your webpage which contribute significantly to the rankings of search results. So if you have noticed a drop in googles rankings it normally means there has been a change to your site or a change offsite, meaning lost or negative backlinks that is why you need backlinks because this will directly connect you to a quality and quantity link sites and shows how much traffic search your website could get. When you get more traffic sites the more customers may attract to your site. This will also improve your site search google rankings and you can get excellent web page ratings, SEO scores, and credibility.

Monitoring Backlink Profile
Why would I be monitoring my Profile Backlink?

It is best for you to monitor your backlink profile because your profile with a backlink defines the web pages that link to your site and evaluating your backlink profile can help you understand where you can get better and improve which sites need to be refuted. It could contribute to enhancing your rankings and it’ll also be part of your marketing strategy.

In addition to this, there are different types of software related to monitoring backlink profiles but the most recommended so far is Ahrefs. If you are getting reports from your SEO agency and that don’t match what you are seeing in your profile then either someone is building links without you knowing you and the SEO company is not reporting honestly. In some cases it can take longer than four weeks for google to pick up on newly built links so before picking up the phone to your SEO Consultant just make sure you know the length of time between the links that have been built for you.

What type of Links should I acquire?

The ideal backlink profile is one domain = one link which means that you have a variety of sites creating unique popularity back to your site. There are many myths on what works and doesn’t work with link building and the only way to really measure the quality of a link is by how far it moves your forward in the rankings. This is why many credible SEO agencies keep a catalog of link resource sites in order to ensure they always have a good source of backlinks for their clients.

Link Building Google Analytics

As the world is evolving and growing, a lot of connection building strategies are focused on techniques these days that lead users straight to your site as well as making Google recognize that you can rank well for similar words and that works for Google Analytics.

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is all about traffic where everything came from, what something caused on-site, and how much it generated value. Reference traffic data will be the key priority for evaluating the construction of the connections. You create a bridge, people use it to get to your website, you calculate its importance.

Analytics and why they are important?

Google provides a massively comprehensive set of data and analytics for you to pour over in order for you to monitor your website called Search Console (also known as Web Master Tools and Google Analytics). This enables you to do many things, like finding faults, control crawls, submit sitemaps, set canonicals, add markups and more.

First of all, you may not even have created a search console or a webmaster tools account, so if you don’t have one, then you should set one up as it’s free. If you are unsure about doing this then get your web designer or preferably an SEO company to do this for you to ensure it is done correctly. Having all of this setup will allow you to channel information from Google, which can then be used to increase your conversion rate optimization (or CRO).

For Google to be able to get all this information for you you will need to put a tracking code into your site (which is easy), once that is there then Google will start collecting all the site data from that date onwards. You can rewind back through time to compare data, but obviously not before the code was present.

Lastly, as per every SEO aspect, there are always multiple techniques you can take to evaluate the importance of building connections and each project may involve its own approach.
